The Denver Nuggets opened their Western Conference Semifinals series with a 114-106 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night at Ball Arena in Denver.
Nikola Jokic led the way for the Nuggets with 27 points and 19 rebounds, while Jamal Murray added 23 points and 8 assists. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while LeBron James added 22 points.
The Nuggets jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 17 points in the second quarter.
The Lakers made a run in the third quarter, cutting the Nuggets' lead to 5 points, but Denver was able to hold them off and extend their lead back to 10 points going into the fourth quarter.
The Lakers were able to cut the lead to 5 points again in the fourth quarter, but the Nuggets held on for the victory.
The Nuggets will now host the Lakers in Game 2 of the series on Saturday night.
